OA runs workshops for youth leaders and soccer coaches. These are three day training workshops for either youth leaders in their communities or coaches of youth soccer in local clubs or schools. A workshop was piloted in Gulu, Uganda, 2009 and will be continually modified and expanded upon, in order to learn from our experiences and to reach greater amounts of youth leaders.
A combination of classroom sessions, group discussions, on-field experience, and ‘teachable moments’ are used to deliver the workshop curriculum. The workshops cover coaching theory, soccer skill development, and education from our local partners on peacebuilding and gender equality. This includes learning about incorporating messages of peace and reconciliation into sport, as well as how to improve as a leader and as a sports instructor. Future projects will include education on additional issues
