OA runs workshops for youth leaders and soccer coaches. Â These are three day training workshops for either youth leaders in their communities or coaches of youth soccer in local clubs or schools. Â A workshop was piloted in Gulu, Uganda, 2009 and will be continually modified and expanded upon, in order to learn from our experiences and to reach greater amounts of youth leaders.
A combination of classroom sessions, group discussions, on-field experience, and ‘teachable moments’ are used to deliver the workshop curriculum. Â The workshops cover coaching theory, soccer skill development, and education from our local partners on peacebuilding and gender equality. Â This includes learning about incorporating messages of peace and reconciliation into sport, as well as how to improve as a leader and as a sports instructor. Â Future projects will include education on additional issues
