Projects

OA is a low-cost grassroots organization using the power of soccer to support youth affected by war.

Since being founded by students in 2006, OA has completed three overseas projects (Ecuador in 2007, Rwanda in 2008, and northern Uganda in spring 2009). The combined impact of these projects has reached more than 7,000 children and youth in 25-plus communities. Through these experiences, it has been determined that OA’s projects can have the most impact in a post-conflict region where there is a high need for stability and support for local (and youth driven) peacebuilding programs.

Currently focusing on northern Uganda, OA plans to continue to help establish a locally-driven framework that connects war-affected youth with local youth leaders to play soccer and to discuss important community building issues, such as, post-conflict healing and gender based violence. By supporting existing relationships and organizations, the project has a culturally relevant and sustainable impact.

Below is the list of project activities being implemented in our project in northern Uganda:

  1. Community Soccer Field Rehabilitation
  2. Workshops for Youth Leaders and Soccer Coaches
  3. Soccer Camps for Peace
  4. Soccer Equipment Distribution
  5. Soccer Leagues and Tournaments for Peace
