Play Soccer So They Can

On the 25th-27th of September of 2009, we launched a grassroots community effort to support development of youth who have been affected by war.

Over $7,500 was raised during the first year of Play Soccer So They Can, and this has been used to support the development of local youth-led, and soccer-based peacebuilding framework, in northern Uganda. Read more about the project plan here: Gum Marom Phase II_2010_OA.

Last year, during the second year of PSSTC, North Vancouver FC raised a fantastic $5,300 on their own. The President of the Vancouver Whitecaps, Bob Lendarduzzi, went as far as to priase the work and encourage other youth clubs in the lower mainland to follow their lead and get involved in supporting war-affected youth.

This year, the dates for our Third Play Soccer So They Can events are September 24th to 25th, 2011.  However, we are as always encouraging everyone to organize their events on a day or weekend that is most convenient for them.  Moreover, our goal for this year, is to raise at least $10,000 so check back to see how we are doing with that!

** North Vancouver FC **

It is our pleasure to announce a our second year of our partnership with  North Vancouver FC.  During the weekend of the 24th/25th of September, North Vancouver FC (NVFC) are asking all of their 3200 players to participate in raising funds and support for war-affected youth in northern Uganda.

If you are a player, coach or member of the NSYSA or NVFC, please click here for a downloadable PDF with much more information and easy to follow steps.

Furthermore, Bob Lenarduzzi and the Vancouver Whitecaps have endorsed the partnership between OA Projects and the NVFC again this year, and are offering prizes for the teams that show a strong involvement in the weekend. One of the prizes will involve a visit from an MLS player or coach to training session of one of the NVFC’s teams.

Tax receipts are eligible for cash or cheque donations that are over $10, on the weekend of the 24/25 of September.
