Opportunitas Aequa
Creating OpportunitiesProject Rwanda (PR)
OA’s Development Strategy for Project Rwanda
Project Rwanda will be OA’s second overseas project, and we plan to exceed what was achieved in Ecuador. PR will be a project created by local communities, here, and carried out by a select group of young leaders, there. These young leaders will work with the local communities in order to develop sustainable projects that are harmonious with the people, spirit, and environment of Rwanda.
OA hopes to raise at least $50,000 CAD for our project in Rwanda. Funds will be distributed among such tasks as field construction, distribution of equipment, education and health initiatives, and a project documentary. OA will continue to raise funds until the day before the team leaves for Rwanda.
Our goal is to have financial resources that will enable us to a) be flexible in our logistics and real-time decision-making and b) not only make a significant, initial impact but also develop a framework to provide sustainable, long-lasting positive effects within the local communities of Rwanda.
OA’s Vision for Project Rwanda
In Rwanda, OA will work with local communities and organizations to help build a better environment for children to develop in. OA will focus on developing the local soccer and sport-related infrastructure in order to allow children to be children. Soccer field construction, soccer equipment distribution, and soccer camps will form the bulk of this; however, we will also take action to help in other areas. For example, OA would like to work with local authorities and communities to reduce the basic costs of schooling and health care via the purchasing of medical and school supplies.
A documentary of the entire project will be created with the purpose of furthering our message that small differences, by many people, will lead to substantial, positive change. OA will work with the Vancouver Film School (VFS) to create a film of significant quality that will not only give the world an understanding of what it took to complete PR but also serve as a window into the landscape and culture of the communities that we will work in.
Along with our feature-length documentary, we will integrate video webepisodes, a blog, and podcasts about the project in order to allow everyone to follow along, in an interactive and intimate manner, with what is happening on the soil in Rwanda.
Please, follow our Project Rwanda Blog for up-to-date information about what is happening.
