Creating Opportunities

Project Ecuador (PE)

Location: Chimborazo and Guayaquil, Ecuador

Recently, in February and March of 2007, six OA members traveled to Chimborazo, Ecuador, where their first project — Project Ecuador (PE) — was completed.

After almost a year of fundraising and collecting new and used soccer equipment, OA was able to deliver over 1350 balls, 850 pairs of cleats and runners, $20,000 worth of school uniforms, and a variety of other soccer-related equipment to the children and the communities of Chimborazo. In addition to the delivery of the equipment, over $12,000 USD was brought into the local economy through the construction of a soccer field, the re-construction of another, and the distribution of the equipment.

For more information, photos, and videos about the project, please check out our Project Ecuador blog or follow the links on this site.

Phase 1 of Project Ecuador was great — but merely a beginning.

OA is currently developing ideas for continued support in rural regions of Ecuador (i.e., phase 2) and working with the Vancouver Film School on the production of a documentary film of the entire project.
