Update from Ecuador
OA Member Andrew Brownlee reports on the latest from Ecuador:
—
OA has been keeping in close contact with our friends down in Ecuador. We have heard nothing but good news.
This month, the local community soccer league had a tournament in La comunidad Santa Teresa de Guabug, on one of the soccer fields that we helped re-build. We are extremely happy to hear that the field is being both used and maintained.
We are still working to find ways to promote youth soccer in the region. Not long ago, we received an email from Antonio Inga, our main contact in Chimborazo and the person who helped us execute our project. Antonio has told us that they are carrying on the momentum from our visit and have begun to build a soccer field in another community, La Comunidad de Chimborazo. We will try to help this initiative, financially, as a part of our ongoing support of community sport in rural Ecuador.
In his email, Anotionio also said “Gracias a vuestro apoyo, seguimos trabajando para el deporte, pensando en la juventud,” or “Thanks to your support. We continue to work for sport, thinking of the youth.”
It seems that our impact in Chimborazo is standing the test of time. So, thanks again to everyone who supported that work in Ecuador.
If you would like to know more about Project Ecuador and how it unfolded, please check our video journals from our time in Ecuador or follow along at www.oaprojects.org where we hope to receive some photos of the field being used!
